Description: I originally captured the image that inspired this painting while hiking with my son this past autumn. The sharp angle of the late afternoon sunlight created a golden hue on the prairie at the edge of this oak savanna. As light streamed through the forest, I stood for a moment frozen as it appeared two wise old trees were locked in an eternal waltz. The scene reminded me of the following poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1897), which also inspired the title of this piece:
"The Oak"
Live thy Life,
Young and old,
Like yon oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold;
Summer-rich
Then; and then
Autumn-changed
Soberer-hued
Gold again.
All his leaves
Fall’n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough
Naked strength.
