Description: One winter morning earlier this year, I awoke, glanced out the window, and to my amazement a dense hoarfrost covering all surfaces. I hurried through my morning routine, jumped into my vehicle and took off for work; anticipating that on a morning like this it might take me a bit longer than usual to make the commute. The world had been entirely transformed. Everything was made beautiful - from barbed wire fences, to rusty vehicles, to abandoned corn stalks from last year's harvest - everything was covered in fine, feathery crystals. I stopped by a small nature preserve near to my office and, in my work clothes and leather shoes, marched through the snow into the forest. The sun was just rising through the trees and as I watched the light reflecting off of diamond encrusted branches, it occurred to me - At this time in human history where the prevailing narrative is defined by discomfort, uncertainty, and fear, we must remember there is a silver lining to all things. We are often quick to jump to the conclusion that situations are either good or bad based on initial perceptions, but maybe they just are what they are. Maybe we do ourselves a disservice by jumping to conclusions instead of just living in and embracing the moment. Perhaps that is the extent to which judgment should be assigned so that we leave space for some light to shine through.
