Description: I believe one of the most challenging and most important things we are called to do in life is to rise above our personal, interpersonal, and social biases, misperceptions, and blindspots towards a more authentic form of being. We often cling tightly to our comfort zones, social circles, and viewpoints, primarily out of uncertainty about and fear of the unknown. I see this occur most often when we are asked to open our hearts to different people, perceptions, and values that might disrupt our norms and sense of 'right and wrong', 'good and bad'. Unfortunately, the dualistic attitude we all carry often leaves us pitted against possibility, failing to accept new things just as they are; often beautiful in their uniqueness and difference if we open our hearts to that possibility. Just as trees rise above obstacles in their environment, guided by our sun's brilliant light, it is my hope that we all find a beacon of truth in our own lives so that we can rise above divisiveness, hate, indifference, and fear to find the good within ourselves and each other. Lord knows, we need it.
