Description: These dried stalks now stand as monuments defining the place where once black soil, newly overturned, cradled seeds freshly sown and bursting with vitality. When bathed by spring torrents they sprouted, grew, and flourished. As time passed, with purpose met and duty served, the water that gave these stalks life slowly evaporated into our atmosphere. Soon these ghostly forms will be returned to the soil, depositing nutrients and ensuring that another generation will once again drink from the sky, stretch toward the heavens, and immerse the horizon in a swaying sea of green.
